of sashimi and sukiyaki

On this fine Monday morning, I brought Sunshine23 to the Sydney Fish Market (SFM) for a sashimi and fresh oyster breakfast enroute to the Hunter Valley region. We arrived at the SFM at around 9am++ and I was amazed to see how quiet the place was. I had always only been there on weekends and it had always been crazily packed to the point I sometimes couldn't enjoy my meals there.

Went into Claudio's and got ourselves a yummy spread of fresh oysters, salmon sashimi, and seaweed salad.

I was looking at the slices of salmon on display and tried to choose the belly portion which is the juiciest and my favourite part of the salmon fish.

We then popped into the fruits market for a look-see. Sunshine23 was amazed by how cheap the fruits were - 3 punnets of blueberries for $10! This is not the cheapest, I tell you. Wait til I bring you to the Sydney Markets. After Sunshine23 was done with her squeals of delight, we got ourselves 500g of cherries for $9.99 to nibble on our roadtrip.

She also couldn't believe how big the watermelons were. OMG, such a mountain turtle LOL.

Finally, we picked a table with sunshade and settled down for a sumptious breakfast. See, we even brought our own SFM condiments kit - wasabi, tabasco sauce, cracked black pepper and soy sauce. If we weren't driving, we would have probably added a bottle of wine into our picnic bag.

We went on a road trip up north to the Hunter Valley region after the breakfast but that will be another entry on another day.

The same day, we went to Kings Cross for dinner when we got back to Sydney from Hunter. I showed Sunshine23 the trademark Coca Cola board and we walked a bit along the main street full of strip clubs. Sunshine23 didn't really like the street as it was dirty and smelly - I agree. However, exploring the back lanes and side streets in the day is another story altogether but I did not get a chance to show her the more beautiful side of Kings Cross by day nor its delicious eggs benedict and omelette breakies (specifically at La Petite Creme).

We had dinner at Juju's, a Japanese restaurant located near the Coca Cola sign near Coles supermarket. We were seated at table 13 and ordered calpis drinks for all of us, grape flavoured for me, green apple for Sunshine23 and green apple soda for Becky.

We were quite famished when we arrived at the restaurant and kept harrassing the waitresses to serve us our food or we would die of starvation. The servers were quite sympathetic to us and actually tried their best to keep the food coming. The nice lady who showed us into the restaurant even asked us if we ate enough when we were leaving. How embarrassing.

Sukiyaki! Very nice! We also had agedashi tofu, okonomiyaki, and teriyaki eel. Okonomiyaki was the word of the day. We had to video ourselves saying the word of the day continuously for five times before we were allowed to eat it. This all started when Sunshine23 got very amazed by the word Woolloomooloo and kept repeating it nonstop.

Here's Becky and Sunshine23 finishing up the last of the dishes. OMG, we finished every single piece of food item on our table.

We felt so stuffed it was like being 5 months pregnant. We took this photo on our train journey home just to show how big our tummies were after eating all that food.

I think I overate big time cos I had nightmares the entire night. Bleah.
