I did a quick 10min pitstop at the newly built Marina Barrage on my way home one night. Above is the view from the highest point there. I took about 20 shots with different ISO and exposure settings but almost all of them turned out blurry and/or grainy. This pic is the only slightly decent shot. See how different our city skyline now looks with the Singapore Flyer? I wonder how it'll look with the IRs completed in the very near future. The area just outside this frame on the extreme left is where all the construction works on the IR is taking place. I have not captured it as I find the presence of all the cranes, spotlights and half completed structures very ugly.
The above helicopter view of the Marina Barrage by day is taken from the PUB website. Referring to the short write-up provided by PUB, this Singapore's latest downtown icon built across the mouth of the Marina Channel is Singapore’s 15th reservoir, and the first in the heart of the city. With a catchment area of 10,000 hectares, or one-sixth the size of Singapore, the Marina catchment is the island’s largest and most urbanised catchment. Together with two other new reservoirs, the Marina Reservoir will boost Singapore’s water catchment from half to two-third’s of the country’s land area. The Marina Barrage is the result of Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew’s vision nearly two decades ago when he envisaged damming the mouth of the Marina Channel to create a freshwater reservoir.
I hope to visit this place again in the day to check out the Sustainable Singapore Gallery which showcases Singapore's efforts towards environmental sustainability.
